Elizabeth Jordan was from Baltimore, Maryland.   Her work is characterized as a Baltimore “eyeglass gate” architectural sampler.   There are many documented samplers with this gate, impressive brick house, and flanking willow trees dating from 1810 to 1841.  Elizabeth’s sister Ann, worked a comparable sampler with a splendid gazebo or folly.  The floral border is new to the eyeglass gate group and found on two more Baltimore samplers.
