This is the second sampler made by Isabella, her first one was worked in 1835. A well balanced small spot sampler with a queen in her garden. This motif is almost identical to those found on Dutch samplers where it is referred to as the Maid of Holland, a freedom symbol after the Spanish war.

Isabella was born the 3rd of May, 1828 in Saddell And Skipness, Argyll, Scotland to William Cook and Mary Thomson.
This sampler is worked mainly in cross-stitch, some cross over one and rice stitch.

Size: Worked on 40 count (16 thr/cm) linen it measures 7.5" x 8" (19 cm x 20.5cm)
